This page explains what happens to data when you read tripprimer. It describes what the site actually does rather than everything the law permits, and it is written to be checked against the site itself.
The short version
- There are no accounts, no logins and no sign-up forms. Nothing asks you for your name or your email.
- Analytics are used to count visits and see which guides get read.
- Some outbound links to booking sites are affiliate links. Following one may set a cookie belonging to that company.
- Nothing collected here is sold.
What is collected
Analytics. The site uses Google Analytics 4 to count page views and see which guides are read, where readers arrive from and roughly which country they are in. Google Analytics sets cookies and processes your IP address; Google is the controller of that data for its own purposes. IP addresses are truncated by Google before storage.
Affiliate link handling. Two scripts run on the page and rewrite some outbound links to accommodation and activity sites so a booking can be attributed here: Stay22 and Travelpayouts. They see the page you are on and the link you click. They may set their own cookies.
Server logs. The site is hosted on Vercel, which records requests, including IP addresses, for security and for making the site work. This is ordinary hosting, not profiling.
What is not collected. No account data, because there are no accounts. No payment details — bookings happen on the booking site, never here. No newsletter list, because there is no newsletter.
Cookies
Cookies are set by Google Analytics, and by the affiliate services when a link is rewritten or followed. None of them are needed for the pages to work: you can block or delete them in your browser and every guide will still read normally.
If you are in the UK or the EU, be aware that these cookies currently load when the page does, rather than after a consent prompt. A consent gate is being added. Until it is, blocking third-party cookies in your browser, or using a blocker, is the reliable way to opt out here.
Affiliate links
Some links to hotels, hostels and activities earn a commission if you book through them. The price you pay is the same. Affiliate links carry a rel="sponsored nofollow" attribute, and pages that contain them say so near the top. No hotel pays for a place in a comparison or for a recommendation.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to ask what data is held about you, to have it deleted, or to object to its processing. In practice almost everything described here sits with Google, Stay22, Travelpayouts or Vercel rather than with this site, so a request may need to go to them — write to the address below and you will be told where to send it.
California residents: personal information is not sold or shared for cross-context behavioural advertising as those terms are defined by the CCPA/CPRA.
Children
This site is written for adults planning trips. It is not directed at children and no data is knowingly collected from them.
Changes
When a tag is added or removed, this page is updated in the same change and the date at the top moves. There is no separate archive: the date is the version.
