Four ways into the city, and the right one depends less on speed than on where your hotel is. The fastest train to the wrong station is slower than a bus to the right street.

The options at a glance
| Option | Journey time | Fare | Best when |
|---|---|---|---|
| AREX express | ~43 min from T1, ~51 from T2 | 13,000 won | Hotel near Seoul Station |
| AREX all-stop | Longer | Considerably cheaper | Hotel near a stop, e.g. Hongdae |
| Limousine bus | Varies with traffic | Mid | A bus stops in your district |
| Taxi | Varies with traffic | Highest | 3+ people, heavy bags, or late arrival |
The train is the default, with one condition
The express runs non-stop and lands you at Seoul Station, which is a major interchange — so if your hotel is there, or one easy connection away, this is the answer and the rest of the page is academic.
The condition is that condition. From Seoul Station, a hotel in Gangnam is still a subway ride with luggage.
The all-stop train is underrated
It is substantially cheaper and it stops along the way — including at Hongik University for Hongdae. If you are staying at one of those stops, the all-stop train is both cheaper and faster door to door than the express plus a transfer.
The bus wins more often than people expect
Limousine buses run to specific hotel districts rather than to one station. If one stops near your hotel, you skip the part of the journey that actually hurts — hauling cases through an underground transfer. Slower in traffic, better outside peak hours, and far less effort.
When a taxi is the right call
Three or more people, heavy luggage, or an arrival after the trains stop. For a solo traveller on a normal schedule it is simply expensive.
