The useful fact about Gimhae Airport is where it is: inside Busan, across the river from Sasang, twenty-something minutes from downtown. Travellers trained by Incheon expect an expedition; what they get is a metro transfer. The only real decision is which side of the city you are sleeping on.

The options at a glance
| Option | To Seomyeon | To Haeundae | Fare (our band) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Light rail + metro | ~35–40 min | ~70 min | ₩20,000 and under |
| Limousine bus | — | ~50–70 min | ₩20,000 and under |
| Taxi | ~25–30 min | ~40–50 min | ₩20,000–50,000 |
Each option in detail below — including the one transfer that makes the rail route work, and when the bus beats everything.
Light rail + metro: the default for the west and centre
Subway: Busan–Gimhae Light Rail from Gimhae Airport station → 2 stops to Sasang → Line 2 toward Jangsan for Seomyeon and beyond
Price: About ₩3,000–3,500 total with a transit card, airport to Seomyeon (our estimate)
Hours: First trains around 5am, last around midnight — both directions
The light rail is driverless, frequent and takes six minutes to Sasang, where Line 2 picks up the rest of the city. For Seomyeon, Nampo via a second transfer, or anywhere central, this is the cheap, reliable answer that ignores traffic entirely. Heading toward Line 3 territory instead, ride one more stop to Daejeo and transfer there.
The catch is Haeundae: it is on Line 2, but at the far end — the metro ride alone is close to an hour. Possible, cheap, and the slowest door in this table.
Limousine bus: the Haeundae answer
Getting there: Airport limousine from the stops outside arrivals, signed for Haeundae — via Namcheon and Gwangalli
Price: Around ₩10,000, paid by card at the door (our estimate)
Hours: Roughly every 25–30 minutes through the day; the queue forms where the sign is
One seat, a luggage bay, and a route that crosses the city without a transfer. If your hotel is in Haeundae or Gwangalli, this is the option the rail route can't beat — the same trip by train is a transfer plus most of the length of Line 2. Traffic on the bridges can stretch it at rush hour, which is the fare you pay for the sea view on the way in.
Taxi: cheaper than you'd guess, because the airport is close
Price: ₩15,000–20,000 to Seomyeon · around ₩30,000 to Haeundae · late-night surcharge after 10pm (our estimate)
Note: The rank is immediately outside arrivals; show the hotel name in Korean from your booking app
Because Gimhae is a city airport, the taxi is not the luxury it is at Incheon — to Seomyeon it costs about what two transit fares plus patience are worth. Two people with luggage going anywhere central should just take it. It is also the entire plan between midnight and 5am, when the rail is asleep.
Which one, in one line each
-
Seomyeon / central, daylight hours — light rail + Line 2, done.
-
Haeundae / Gwangalli — limousine bus, or a taxi if the timing is awkward.
-
Two+ people, central — taxi, and stop doing arithmetic.
-
Red-eye either direction — taxi, with the night surcharge priced in.
