Families get a different answer from Seoul than couples do, and it is not about which district is prettiest. It is about three things: how fast you can get back to the room, how big the room actually is, and whether the day's main attraction is walkable or a train ride away.
The short version: Myeongdong, unless Lotte World is fixed
Myeongdong is central enough that an unplanned return to the hotel costs fifteen minutes rather than an hour. For anyone travelling with a child who still naps, or who melts down at four in the afternoon, that single property outweighs everything else in this guide.

Jamsil is the exception, and the reason is Lotte World
If the theme park is already on the itinerary, staying in Jamsil converts the hardest day of the trip into a five-minute walk. Lotte World, the tower and Seokchon Lake are all there, and the area is modern and wide rather than cramped.
You pay for it with distance from the palaces and the historic centre, which become a planned outing rather than a stroll.
Hotels around Jamsil sit mostly at the upper-mid end — this is a newer, more corporate part of the city.
Yeouido if space matters more than sights

Yeouido is a river island of parks, wide pavements and far fewer people. For families with toddlers, that is worth more than being ten minutes closer to a palace. The cost is a longer ride to almost everything on a standard first-trip itinerary.
Jongno and Insadong for older children

If your children are old enough to enjoy the palaces and hanbok rental rather than endure them, Jongno puts all of it within walking distance and is noticeably quieter at night than Myeongdong.
The thing nobody warns you about: room size
Korean hotel rooms are small by North American and European standards. A room sold as a "twin" is often genuinely tight for a family of four, and many hotels cap occupancy at three regardless of bed count.
What is checked here and what is not
District characteristics and subway lines are stable and are checked on the date at the top of this page. Room sizes, occupancy limits and lift access at specific stations vary by property and by exit — confirm those on the booking page before you commit.
